My 2008 Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop need info on replacing battery. Will I lose CMOS information (setup etc when replacing battery after turning power to computer off)
Yes. If you need to, go into BIOS before changing battery and copy all the settings you changed. Then when you reboot, go straight to the BIOS. First thing will be changing date & time, then any other settings, then boot.
Do you know what year computers were changed to using the CMOS battery for only clock and date only. I have a 2008 Dell Inspiron Inspiron 530 Desk Top
I believe that CMOS still is used to store the bios info (I think one of the reasons is so if you mess something up then you can just reset the CMOS)
