How to Delete the Windows.old Folder that won't delete

#1

Free Up Space and Disk clean up tool leaves all the folders empty but still there.
Manual delete tells me: Item not found ‘could not find his Item’
This is no longer located in C:. Verify this items location and try again.
Same thing when updating to 1803
Thought that maybe after update yesterday to 1809 the clean up tool would remove windows.old folder but no go.
This is happening on 2 computers that I use.
I am also running skip ahead pre-release edition on third computer that after upgrades windows removes windows.old completely every time.

Are you familiar with command prompt and Windows recovery media? It is possible to do that but the step is very cautious, one small mistake and boom! :boom:

I am beyond cmd and recovery is not worth it as the folders are empty and will just repopulate at the next version.

#4

Can you delete the folder? If yes then try this command as admin after deleting the folder: echo. > /path/of/folder. The folder will be replaced with a new empty file and Windows can’t make it a folder.
