Excel inserted in Word using Insert/Table/Excel Spreadsheet.

  1. Is it embedded, linked, or inside Word file.
  2. If embedded or linked,
What is default file (excel) location of file created when excel is inserted into Word.
  3. and How to create “Excel inside Word” not embedded or linked.

Embedding and linking are two different things.

Linking means that you are connecting two different files. So if you change the original Excel file, then open the word document, the spreadsheet will look different in the word document.

Embedding means that the file exists only inside the Word document. So there’s no default file location.

To embed or link a spreadsheet, use the Insert tab and look for “Object.” From there, you can Create New or Create from File… just pick Microsoft Excel Worksheet as the object type.
