Bulk Rename multiple files

#1

I work in Windows 10. I need to rename multiple pdf files, and there’s a lot of them. Some filenames have spaces; some don’t. I have googled this and have not been able to come up with an answer. I think the cmd prompt is the way to go but I’m very rusty on the commands. What I want is to keep the original filenames but add a _RevA at the end of each file.

Thanks,
Vicki

The simplest way I know of is with

ren *.pdf ???_RevA.pdf

but the number of question marks has to match the number of characters in the original file name, so if this varies in the files you want to rename you would first have to group them into sub-folders by equal number of characters and run this in each sub-folder then move the altered files back into the original folder.

The Ant Renamer utility can do any renaming task without moving around or pre-sorting files. It has a name change preview so you know if you’ve chosen the best method or combination of methods before you perform the actual renaming.
