Have you ever noticed that your Internet service provider advertises their speeds as “up to” a maximum speed? You may think you’re paying for a 15 Mbps connection, but you’re actually getting an “up to 15 Mbps” connection that may be slower.

Paying for 100Mbps getting 94 ...... close enough for me!

"Speedtest.net"? You must be joking HTG! Nearly all ISPs in Thailand fiddle the results - they have their own 'Speedtest.net' server located in Thailand. Ping results of 30ms for a 10,000 mile away city gives the game away.
I have a strong suspicion that Speedtest.net knows about this but does nothing.
Use DSLreports.com for a real result. Be prepared for a shock.

Switched from AT&T dsl (up to 1.5 mbps - actually 0.45) to Comcast. I am getting 30 to 32 mbps (versus 25 promised), as measured by speedtest.net, which coincidentally is hosted by Comcast. The price is $20/month higher but, I believe, worth it.

How to tell? That's easy... if your billing statement has a "Windstream Communications" logo on it, you're getting humped.

From what I've heard speedtest.net measures the capacity speed not actual speed if you want actual speed results I would check out this link here ispgeeks you can sign up for a free account and have a plethora of tools to test and benchmark your isp.

I have to say im pleased with Verizon FiOS. I pay for 50/25, however I normally get much faster. However in the DC Metro area, the infrastructure is good and residents wouldnt tolerate not getting what they pay for.

I have the same FIOS package now. I get 58 down consistently/ 32 up no matter what time of day. Before I moved I had the next level up package and was getting 85 down. FIOS rocks.
