Have you ever wondered why people have a preference for using one hand over the other? What is it that determines hand dominance? Is it because of evolution, is it hereditary, or due to something else? SciShow takes a quick look at the topic in this terrific video.

I have been right handed since I can remember (around 1946 or 7). When I work on computers or printers sometimes that's the wrong hand, so I became able to use either hand for tools. Writing? Not so much!
I am very messy with my right hand... and way worse with my left! LoL

I was ambidexterous until I was about 9 years old (wrote with either hand). At that point, I became left-hand dominant for writing, but remained ambidexterous for many other things. I run office machines like any "rightie", use silverware like a European (fork always in left hand) pour coffee right-handed, etc. Use tools with either hand. I still write like a 4th grader with my right hand (I'm now 67)!

I have always written, used a mouse and knife (for cutting) in my left hand, however can only use scissors in my right. I also have to use a needle when sewing in my right - weird eh?

I use my left hand to write and when I need precision, but my right arm and leg are stronger. I grab the mouse with the right hand, the same for scissors and fork. My mother was forced to write with her right hand, and I guess she decided not to do the same with me

I've been a lefty ever since I can remember, I write with my left hand but my right hand is my strong arm, i pitch and throw with my right, but my dominant foot is my left foot, also when boxing my stand is a lefty. I've tried changing to just being a lefty but I think I'm lazy. what's wrong with me though? why can't I just be full on left?

It could be because of sheer habit. However, many experts believe, left brain dominant person will use more of the right hand, and vice versa. The right brain deals with art, imagination, and the left brain deals with logic. That's why a lot of artists are left-handed. But not always like that. Btw, Leonardo Da Vinci was a lefty
