Yeah, I would say coincidence. Grams is a unit of the metric system... which America generally doesn't use.

I must admit when I visit the US I don't really get why they have most of their coinage still. When I come back I just end up with loads of useless coins that I'm never able to get rid of in usual shopping/buying exchanges.
The country revolves around quarters basically.
