Tried 14.04 on an older computer that ran 12.04.3 just fine. I did a full reinstall allowing 14.04 to completely replace the older version. It runs so slow it's unusable. I will be reformatting and reinstalling the 12.04.3 later today. Newer is not always better. And NO! I don't want to 'just' open the command line and whatever - if it doesn't work out of the box, it's not yet ready for prime time.
