By default, Nautilus displays a breadcrumb bar showing the path to the selected folder or file. However, this may not be efficient if you need to enter a long path. You can easily change Nautilus to display the location entry rather than the breadcrumb bar.

There's a couple of other ways to do this as well. There's a setting in Ubuntu Tweak that'll change it, or for a temporary switch, you can press CTRL + L and it'll switch until you restart Nautilus.

If you use Nemo instead of Nautilus, you can do the same, but it's entry in dconf Editor is labeled differently. Go to org -> nemo -> preferences and look for "show-location-entry"
