Many laptops now include a combined headphone and microphone jack instead of two separate audio jacks. This trend started with smartphones and tablets, but has spread to MacBooks, ultrabooks, and convertibles like Microsoft’s Surface Pro.

Great post! I have some questions, perhaps you can enlighten me (:
What was your criteria to choose the StarTech MUYHSMFF adapter? Is there any signal to noise ratio or audio quality comparison between different adapters in the market we can refer to? I am really interested in this information since I am about to purchase a notebook with a combined audio plug and want to keep the audio experience as clean as possible. I am aware that the quality might depend mostly on the soundcard and headset, but still want to minimize distortions.
