@jfitzpatrick, i envy you really. hope i can tap into at least 1/2 the capabilities or explore at least 1/2 the stuff you have of my camera!
thanks for this and while i might be far from utilizing the info at the moment im sure its good to have it here to come back to for reference / better understanding when the time comes.
would love to request if you might consider an article about the beginner dslr user. something that would cover the basics and help understand what some of the terminology is. especially an understanding about the lenses / how they're rated and what the ratings mean.

@Hydro : A beginner DSLR course sounds promising! =) There are so many features on modern cameras that many new users aren't even aware of, or, if they've poked around the manual and the in-camera menus, they're not exactly sure what they do.
